The Killer Whales

Eligibility Handbook Practice Schedule Meet Schedule T S A

Eligibility

Swim team membership is open to any member of the Kildaire Farms Racquet & Swim Club who has not reached their 19th birthday as of June 1 of the current swim season year.

Kildaire Farms Swim Team Registration Day

Swim Team Registration Day will be held from 2:00 to 5:00 on Sunday, April 27th in the Kildaire Farms clubhouse.  Come in any time during that interval to meet the coaches, size your swimmers for their suits (we have a new pattern this year), sign up for meet jobs, catch up with friends you may not have seen since last summer, and (of course) to register your swimmers for the 2008 team.  The registration fee remains unchanged from last year at $50 per swimmer.

The pool will open on Saturday, May 17th.  While we haven’t yet finalized all the details yet, afternoon swim team practices usually begin on the first weekday following the pool’s opening.   The Killer Whales’ intramural Time Trials meet will be held one week before our first dual meet, on the evening of Tuesday, June 10th.  This also happens to be the final day of (traditional-calendar) school, so most swimmers should not have any exams the next day to worry about.

Swimmers must be able to complete distance requirements for their age group in order to participate in swim meets. Children aged six and under must be able to swim 15 yards unassisted in order to participate. Swimmers who do not qualify will be encouraged to sign up for group or individual swim lessons.

Team swim suits and caps will also be on sale during registration.      PAGE TOP

Swim Team Handbook
The "Killer Whales Handbook" contains information for the parents of all our swimmers. It is available to download in either a PDF, or MS Word format. The handbook contains important swim team information and season schedules.

Head Coach

Chris Meeks

Assistant Coaches

Megan Telfer, Morgan Burk, and Gracie Randall

Junior Coaches

As always, we are fortunate to have several of the team’s older swimmers volunteer as Junior Coaches to help the youngest age groups, who very often require in-the-water instruction.

Practice Schedule

Attendance at practice is highly encouraged for all swimmers and is a prerequisite for competing in Main Events during swim meets.  It is at practice where swimmers receive the instruction necessary to become proficient and strong swimmers.  Our younger swimmers are especially inspired when the older swimmers model good sportsmanship and leadership during practice.

Swim Meet Schedule

This year, Kildaire Farms will compete in Division 2 of the Southern League of the Tarheel Swimming Association (http://www.tsanc.org). Our TSA season consists of six dual swim meets, split evenly into three home meets and three away meets. Away swim meets will require personal transportation. Maps to the pools hosting these away meets are included in the handbook. In addition, directions will be posted on the Swim Team bulletin board a few days in advance.

All six meets will be held on Tuesday evenings, weather permitting.  Warm-ups for the home team begin at 5:00 pm and warm-ups for the visiting team begin at 5:30 pm. Swimmers should plan to be at the pool at least 15 minutes before our team's designated warm-up time:  4:45 for home meets, and 5:15 for away meets.

The team performed so well last year that we have moved up a division.  Way to Go Killer Whales!!!  We are ranked 8th.  In our division are Wellsley, Shepherd's Vineyard, and Sunset Ridge. We will swim one team in the upper division (ranks 1-4) and then we will also swim two of the teams ranked below us.

The dates for the 2008 summer swim meets have been set and are as follows:

June 17th
June 24th
** June 28th **
July 1st
July 8th
July 15th
July 22nd

** Cary City Invitational Swim Meet has been set for June 28th.
The Cary City Invitational Swim Meet is a competition featuring most TSA Southern League swim teams at one pool. This is an open meet, which means that any registered swimmer may sign up to participate.  It is also a very long competition: the meet lasts the entire day, with 10-and-under swimmers competing in the morning session and 11-and-up swimmers competing in the afternoon.  A tent will be set up for the Kildaire Farms Swim Team and you will need to bring the necessary items for a normal swim meet, plus sunscreen, snacks and anything that will make your stay more comfortable.  More information on this meet will follow.
